Sale of House to Assist Fez Orphanage

Anyone who studies the property market in the Fez Medina will know that at the moment there are a good number of properties for sale at reasonable prices. This means that as a seller, you need to have something special - a little extra. Now one man has come up with a unique and generous idea. Bab Al Makina 8.30pmOpening Night: A tribute to Omar Khayyam, Director: Tony Gatlif.With a unique stage design, artists from East and West Asia Central to Egypt, Iran, Italy, will "re-enchant" the work of the great poet Omar Khayyam.

Tony Gatlif is well known for directing musicals and making films that capture the essence and emotion of oriental or Sufi Music. His work honouring the great poet Omar Khayyam will symbolise the theme of the 18th Annual World Sacred Music Festival, "re-enchanting the world". Tony Gatlif has produced this work in collaboration with Dr. Faouzi Skali and Alain Weber. Dr. Faouzi Skali is the Director of Fez Spirit Foundation and an expert on Sufism. Alain Weber is the Artistic Director of the Sacred Music Festival. This powerful collaboration will introduce to you artists from central Asia and other parts of the world in this improvised scenography.

Sanam Marvi - Sufi Chants from Pakistan. Sanam Marvi was born in Hyderabad in Sindh province. Her father is sufi singer Faqeer Ghulam Rasool. Sanam started training at the age of seven and used to accompany her father to his performances at various shrines of sufis in Pakistan, including Sindh and Punjab.

Sanam later trained under the great Ustad Fateh Ali Khan. She sings celebrated Sufi poems, such as Bulleh Shah, in the particular style of Kafi of Punjab - a cross between Sindhi and Sikh harmonies.

The theme for the 2012 Fez Festival is Re-enchanting the World: a homage to the great Sufi poet Omar Khayyam

The Fez Festival of World Sacred Music is your chance to be enchanted by music from all over the world. Started as a peace initiative during the first Gulf War, the festival has become a major event on the international arts calendar. Now in its eighteenth year, it stages astonishing performances of music from the world's great religions: from Sufi trance dancers to black American gospel artists, from Eastern Orthodox polyphony to ancient Hassidic and Hebrew songs. Artists from previous years have included Ben Harper, Jordi Savall and Salif Keita. Each year the programme is a tightly guarded secret until shortly before the festival, but we will bring you information as it comes to hand.

Antiques for sale in Fez

This collection of antiques includes English Club armchairs; Victorian wicker side tables; a Windsor rocking chair; a Victorian bathroom sink; French armour; Art and Craft chairs; Art Deco armchairs; Colonial French pieces circa 1900; French iron candle steaks; taxidermied animals, antique lamps; original Persian coffee tables made of brass; textiles and a collection of original Victorian and Edwardian brass faucets.

Bergere Sofa Set

The collection also includes a Bergere style cane canapé and armchairs. This lovely French antique suite is from the 1900's, made of oak wood and cane. The set has marquetry details and carved handiwork, which has been carefully restored. The suite has been re-upholstered with exquisite fabrics (100% cotton) from the Andrew Martin store in fashionable Knightsbridge in London. This collection of designer Kiln fabrics includes strap motifs, with Moroccan and Turkish influences.

The French Bergere style was popular between late 19th century and 1930's in country houses in France and England, and especially in the French colonies, where it became a classic decor statement. These particular antiques pieces were acquired from an antique shop in the trendy Notting Hill in London and were originally from a Victorian Manor House in Gloucestershire, England.

The set is being sold directly from the owner and is in pristine condition and newly refurbished. It is priced at 13,580 MAD (1,205 euros).

Club Armchairs

Club chairs are very sought after antique pieces. They became fashionable during late Victorian times in England and Europe. They remain trendy today and are a constant fixture in design magazines. Club chairs were popular at gentlemens' clubs in London or for libraries in manor houses as they are associated with comfortable seating for reading, smoking cigars and drinking Scotch.

These Club chairs are unique, due to the design of the frame which has curved lines, in contrast with the classic style that can be bulky, square and require a large space in a room. The particular chairs on offer are Victorian Gothic style and were reupholstered with leatherette fabric in the 1970's. The have metal buttons or tacks made of bronze. They are believed to date from the late 1940's and would benefit from being upholstered in leather, or with a Moroccan carpet if you want a antique funky look. They were were acquired by an antique dealer in the Cotswolds in England and came from an old Pub.

The set of Club chairs are priced at 4,640 MAD (412 euros).

The owner of the antiques says that 10% from the sale will go towards the children's orphanage in Fez.

My name is Bernhard and I am a traveller and film making student from Austria and I am looking for work in Morocco during January and February.

I have been to more than 30 countries and I am a very experienced traveller. I know many places and cultures and I can speak fluent English, Spanish as well as German what is my native language. I also took some university classes in Finnish and Russian. I was working as a paramedic in Austria and know well about first aid. Furthermore I did a lot of night shifts and cleaning there too, so I am used to work like this as well.

Due to my travels I stayed many times in several hostels and hotels all over the world and know well about the duties. I am a very social person and love to hang out with other people to share ideas or joking around. I am also very flexible about the working schedule and duties. I was working in a hotel already in Peru in South America at the reception (and actually doing everything) for two months so I have experience in this area.

I am here in Fes until next May. I am accompanying my partner here while she is studying, however, I would like to find a job and was hoping you may be able to help.

I am 29 years old and have recently left the Royal Air Force after 9 years service as an Aircraft Engineer. I left to become an Adventure Training Instructor, a change of lifestyle was in order, and worked at that for the 4 months between leaving the service and coming here.
I realise you must have an abundance of people that work, or want to work for you and are possibly more experienced in this field but I am extremely adaptable and am willing to put all my effort into any task i am given. I working on research at a UK university about contemporary life in the medina of Marrakech, I'm coming to Morocco next month (September) and I'm hoping to find people from a wide range of occupations in Marrakech who would be willing to be interviewed. I'm looking to talk to expatriates, business owners, tourist operators, building developers, as well as anyone who is knowledgeable about the Berber community, craft industries, and industrial and residential property development.

Looking for Accommodation (and Possibly Work)

I'm looking for a place to stay in Morocco (Essaouira preferably, but not specifically - Fez looks pretty interesting) for a few months. I'm not a tourist, and not interested in tourist-type places.

I'm a graphics and web designer with twenty years' experience behind me, currently working on personal projects in Southern Spain, and looking to move on. I need a cheap place to rent with an internet connection. Something simple, I'm really not fussy. The internet and the rent are the only important things.

I'm native-fluent in English, spoken and written, have a basic/reasonable grasp of Spanish, but my French is limited, to say the least. I do, however, like languages generally (particularly etymology) and like the idea of revisiting my secondary school French is more than interesting.

I have some travel experience (a few years in and around Central/South America), but know nothing of North Africa.

If you can help with a place, or would consider accommodation in exchange for me building you a website (or other computer stuff - I'm pretty familiar with most of it), I'd be more than happy.

Money is the biggest issue. I really don't have very much at all.

I have a wealth of talent and am multi skilled, experienced in retail, leisure and hospitality management, self employed and working for National and International companies.

TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) I have taught English
in Northern India.

I am an extremely motivated, hard working, reliable, enthusiastic guy, flexible in my work patterns and approach to life. Looking for a challenge preferably around Fez.

I love the outdoors,drive a 4x4, off road bike, fly hang gliders (ex micro light instructor),experienced camper, scuba diver and can ride horses. I have travelled extensively through Europe and towards the end of 2005 I travelled on my motor cycle from Manchester to India through 15 countries over a period of nearly two months, I travelled through Europe, Turkey, Iran and Pakistan I then spent a further five months touring India and Nepal.

I am a fit English speaking guy who has fallen in love with Morocco.
I have to come and live there.

I have a wealth of talent and am multi skilled, experienced in retail, leisure and hospitality management, self employed and working for National and International companies. TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) I have taught English in Northern India.

I am an extremely motivated, hard working, reliable, enthusiastic guy, flexible in my work patterns and approach to life.

Looking for a challenge preferably around Fez, I love the outdoors, drive a 4x4, off road bike, fly hang gliders (ex micro light instructor), experienced camper, scuba diver and can ride horses. I have travelled extensively through Europe and towards the end of 2005 I travelled on my motor cycle from Manchester to India through 15 countries over a period of nearly two months, I travelled through Europe, Turkey, Iran and Pakistan I then spent a further five months touring India and Nepal.
Would love to work on safari or adventure holidays or hospitality of some sort (hotel/guesthouse management !!!!)

Accommodation needed

I'm an female undergraduate student at Georgetown University who will be in Morocco, based in Rabat, from July 2 to August 7 for study, and I need a place to stay. Subletting a room in a furnished apartment or house with other women would be ideal, but I'm not picky.
All I reallyneed is a bed or couch to sleep on, shower, washing machine or easy access to laundry services, and wireless internet (I work from my laptop). If need be, I can stay in a hostel or hotel for a few nights and meet you in person before moving in.

Any help anyone can give would be greatly appreciated, even if it's
just advice on how to find a place myself! I'm in Egypt until I arrive
in Rabat, so email is the best way to reach me.

Wanting to marry in Fez!

Americans for Informed Democracy (AID) and the Project on Middle East Democracy (POMED), along with the Centre Marocain d'Etudes Stratégiques (CMES) and the Institut National de la Jeunesse et la Démocratie (INJD), are now accepting applications for the conference "Find Your Voice: A Cross-Cultural Forum on Political Participation and Civic Activism."

This two-day conference will be a multilingual dialogue on the necessity of youth mobilization in the political process and empowering emerging leaders in political parties and civil society. Bringing together Moroccan and American experts on media, political party participation, youth mobilization and citizen journalism, participants will engage the speakers in debate, hold small group discussions, and partake in youth mobilization workshops. The participants will also develop and ratify policy recommendations to be presented to government representatives.

Fes Sacred Music Festival Ticket collection service.

One of the most annoying things about arriving in Fez for the Sacred Music Festival is having the hassle of finding and getting to where you can pick up your tickets. Unfortunately even the taxi drivers experience problems finding the location of the ticket office and if you have just been travelling from overseas the last thing you probably need is to go hunting around Fez for your tickets. Thankfully after the problems last year a solution has been found in the form of the Fes Festival Ticket Collection Service. Here is what they can do to make life easier

For those attending the Fes Festival of World Sacred Music (6-14 June 2008), we offer a ticket collection service. Once you've ordered and paid for your tickets through the ticketing agency, Objectif Maroc, send us your invoice number and we will collect your tickets and deliver them to your guesthouse in time for your arrival. The charge is Dh300 (approximately 27 Euros) per set of tickets per person or group.

About the Hotel

Riad Laaroussa (www.riad-laaroussa) is a charming Boutique hotel set in an ancient XVIII century palace in the centre of Fez Medina in Morocco. The hotel which opened in October 2006, has 7 rooms and a capacity for up to 20 guests. Other facilities include a restaurant, hammam and massage room (opening in March 2008), which are primarily for guest use only. Clients are mainly from England and the USA.

The hotel is run on a very personal basis with only a small number of guests; service is excellent, with nothing being too much trouble.

The Riad is currently managed by the owner, who is looking for someone to take over the management responsibility full time. The staff stronghold is of ten people working in the kitchen, reception and housekeeping. There is a pleasant and respectful environment between the staff and a nice atmosphere in the hotel. Many guests already return.

About the Job

We are looking for a dynamic, personable and well organized full time manager to oversee the everyday running of the Riad. The ideal candidate will be an all-rounder who is strong on the hospitality side as well as the back office and staff management.

Sideboard needed in Fez!

We are after a nice sideboard for Dar Mystere to keep our plates and stuff in and not our beer as that cheeky Cockney duo Chaz & Dave sang of in "Got My Beer in the Sideboard Here".

As we're based in the UK most of the time, visits to Fez are fairly frantic especially when we have the kids in tow. Last time there was at the end of Ramadan so the medina was a bit of a ghost town at times and we couldn't achieve all we had set out to do.

So the next visit in December has a fully organised schedule of hole drilling, plant buying/planting and lots of other stuff that I would have to consult my list about if I was to remember them all. I don't envisage a great deal of time trawling the medina or the mellah for a nice piece - similar in size (approx 1.5 - 1.8m long), but not necessarily in style to the image here.

Unfortunately there's nothing more I'd like than to spend a few days trawling for a sideboard, but it reality it won't happen.

A House in Fez - now available!

The much anticipated launch of Suzanna Clarke's new book - A House in Fez - took place in Brisbane Australia. The book collectors hardback edition of the book can now be ordered here: A House in Fez.

Please be aware that although editions will come out in Korean and French, those editions plus the American release and the UK one will be paperback and only contain half the number of photographs.

Suzanna has a limited edition set of photographs from Fez printed on high quality water paper. The prices range from 400 to 800 dollars Australian depending on size. Accommodation available in Rabat

We are two American girls living in the Oudaya neighborhood in a
large, traditional but comfortable house. Our other 3 roommates are
leaving (moving to Casa and going back to the States) at the end of
the month.

If you know of anyone who is looking for housing starting in December,

I have pictures -- the house is spacious, furnished, wireless
Internet, very cheap rent. We would prefer people who could make a
commitment till June, but even if they can only stay a month or so, we
